2nd Annual Walkathon / Rally Danbury High School, Danbury, CT Map and Directions Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008, 12 to 9 PMThe inspiring students of Danbury High School and Tim Salem, their Assistant Principal, creators of the videos “The Promise” and “Child of Hope: Darfur Dreams of Peace”, have made Danbury, Connecticut a regional center for Darfur awareness and action. Sunday, October 26th, 2008, will be a day of great impact for Western Connecticut. From 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, we’ll have a barbeque prepared by our friends at Danbury High Booster. The Rally will start at 1:00 PM, at which those videos will be shown. Then at 2:00 PM we will walk alongside and in solidarity with refugees from Darfur your choice of either a short 75 minutes or a long 75 laps (18.75 miles) around their 1/4-mile track. We are walking 75 minutes or laps to honor Save the Children's more than 75 years of service to children, an anniversary they celebrated in 2007. The reason we have the longer distance is to recognize and show solidarity with the long distances walked by refugees. There are hundreds of refugee camps in and around Darfur, and according to a United Nations surveyor a couple of years ago, the average distance that women walk to get firewood is 10 miles each way. 75 1/4 mile laps is roughly the same distance. When you finish walking, please consider treating yourselves to lunch or dinner at Uno Chicago Grill, between Macy's and Filene's at the nearby Danbury Fair Mall (directions), where at least 15% of your check will be donated to our school if you present a special coupon. The coupon is good for the entire day, so even if you can't come to the Rally or walk with us, bring the coupon to Uno's and help us build our school. Please join us for a memorable day with your family and friends! We’ve got a school to build! Email us to obtain an Uno’s Coupon, a Walkathon Pledge Sheet, and get added to our communications distribution list. Then begin asking your friends and family to sponsor you.
